How is my son almost a month old already?! I could swear that I was still pregnant with him only yesterday. But time marches on, and today marks four weeks postpartum. So what has been going on in The Parenting Patch household over the past week?

The last seven days have been pretty uneventful. On Monday, I took my toddler daughter and newborn son to story time at our local library. My daughter behaved beautifully while learning about pumpkins, and my son slept through the entire hour snuggled cozily in his car seat. My daughter also went to toddler story time at another library on Thursday evening with her father as part of a daddy-daughter date night. My son and I stayed home and snuggled on the couch.

On Monday, I saw my nurse practitioner to get a refill of my Flonase. During my pregnancy, I stopped taking the category C nasal spray and opted instead to use only Benadryl to treat my nasal allergy symptoms. I would happily stop taking Flonase again for the health of my unborn baby, but I did look forward to using the medication again after giving birth. Benadryl works okay, but Flonase really keeps my congestion and other allergy symptoms under control. Now that my son is here and I have started using Flonase again, I can definitely breathe quite a bit easier!

In terms of weight loss, I have only about six more pounds to lose. During my pregnancy, I gained a total of thirty-one healthy pounds. I started at approximately 112 pounds, which I consider slightly underweight for me. My current goal is to maintain a weight between 115 and 120 pounds. I currently weigh 126 pounds. The key for me is to lose the remaining few pounds without losing anymore. While breastfeeding my daughter, I dropped down to 108 pounds, which lead to some significant bruising. Breastfeeding my son has definitely helped me lose my baby weight again this time around, but I must also be careful not to lose any more once I reach my target weight.

As for my son, he is still doing beautifully. I swear that he has grown an inch over the past week. And he is starting to look more like a little boy than just a newborn baby. My son is also a good sleeper at night for the most part. For the past couple of days, he has been a bit gassier than usual. Friday night, for example, I was up past one o’clock in the morning trying to burp and console him. I suspect that his tummy hurt, but all the crying he was doing was making the problem worse. He did finally settle down and fall to sleep. But, in general, my son is an extremely laid back baby! And the past seven days have been absolutely wonderful!
